Don’t Worry, Be Happy
Hebrews 12:15 (NIV) See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled
Grace means to get something that you do not deserve; unmerited favor. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, Lord and Master, you have a free gift from God; His Grace. That’s powerful. It is so powerful that sometimes it is just easy to forget. The evil one wants us to forget it and will do anything to make sure that you get busy with life, with meaningless junk that you fall into his trap. How do I know this? As the saying goes, I am as guilty as sin.
I let things frustrate me. I lose my temper, I lose my patience, I get worried, tired, overwhelmed and caught up in a junkyard of my past errs. How do I get there? It’s easy; I fall into the evil one’s traps. See, Satan can’t read your mind, but as a follower of Christ, we are watched. He knows your sins, your weaknesses and your shortcomings. He then tempts you with those things. What do you do? Put a stop to it.
How do you stop it? It all came to me today and it’s easy. Remember that Christmas present we got? Jesus dying on the cross gave us God the Father’s GRACE. That present should be big enough, awesome enough, and comforting enough to keep us happy all the time. It should keep us focused on the prize; eternal life in paradise with God. What more could I ask for? I don’t deserve it, but guess what? That doesn’t matter, Jesus paid the price and I think it would honor His sacrifice on the Cross if I put forth every effort to keep the flame of that happiness of God’s grace as a priority each day.
I can defeat all the flaming arrows of the evil one that way. Just accept that free gift each day, know that I don’t deserve it but God gave it to me anyway. Don’t worry, be happy!
Todd Agnew’s song Grace Like Rain has this in verse 2:
And Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
And Hallelujah and all my stains
Are washed away, they’re washed away
Father God, thank you for your gift of grace. Help me to always remember each day that your grace is washing my stains away, that I should forever be fully of joy and happiness because Jesus paid the price for me. Thank you, in Jesus name.
