Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.(Proverbs 13:6)
As the 2012 Presidential Election draws closer, we constantly hear one candidate digging up dirt on another. Not only does this happen at a national level, but at a local level. President Obama really wasn’t born in the United States. Mitt Romney has dirty money behind him. Congressman Paul Ryan will push your grandmother over a cliff. Basically, everyone is trying to paint a picture of the lack of integrity in the next person.
Have you ever heard of the circle of integrity? Its the idea that integrity like a circle. If you have high integrity, you will be in the center of the circle. This places you far away from the dangers of temptation and the world. If you like to live on the outer edge of the circle, you will be faced with greater temptation, and will be much more likely to fall out of the circle. If you like to jump in and out of the circle, you are playing with fire and have high potential for getting burned.
It is kind of like a trampoline. If you are jumping in the middle, you are safe from falling off, and you get the best jumping. If you jump around the edge, you have a greater chance of falling off. Sometimes kids do this for the thrill. But if you jump off the trampoline, very few of us could jump right back on. Jumping off you have a much greater chance of hurting yourself. And getting back on requires work.
Where are we living? Are we trying to gravitate to the middle of the circle? Are we joining there together, upholding and encouraging each other? Or like the kids, are we going for the thrill ride of playing the edge? Or worse yet, are we jumping out of the circle and sneaking back in hoping no one will notice?
