Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
4 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
on that very day his plans perish.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
Leaders will fail us. Leaders will make wrong decisions, be corrupted by money, desires, evil thoughts, and will get influenced by their inner circles to achieve their desires. Leaders will send our soldiers to war, make decisions that will affect our economy, and will arrogantly turn their backs on God. Leaders are human. They are men and women that may start out with good intentions, but sometimes have to be humbled to bring them back down to earth.
So what do we look for in a leader? I look for someone, first and foremost, one that worships Jesus Christ, no matter what denomination that person may be associated with. I want someone that has a personal relationship with Jesus, who will listen to what direction God is taken him/her and one that will be obedient to that word.
I look for someone that puts his spouse and children next in line, after God. We want a leader that loves their spouse, loves their children and has respect for other families as well. One that will drop what they are doing to help a friend in need, such as helping find a missing daughter of a friend. Or one that will pray with and for your family. I want someone that shows up at a hurricane site and asks the media to leave to pray with the affected people, and doesn’t want to put on a show for the media.
I want someone who believes in the sanctity of life. I don’t want a leader that is willing to continue to murder babies and allow it to continue. I want a leader that will stand up and say that abortion is wrong, it has never been legal and it stops now. I want a leader that will stand up and ask that we as individuals seek forgiveness and repentance and as a nation do the same. I want a leader who will wear their faith on their sleeve.
I want a leader who will own up to their mistakes, humble themselves before the Lord and people and ask for forgiveness and divine guidance. I want a leader who will praise God and give Him glory when the right decisions are made and things go as planned.
I want a leader who wants Americans to keep more of their own money, but leads by example in giving charitably and urges all people to do the same, but asks that God be given the glory for that giving. I want a leader who demonstrates fiscal conservation, but one who is supportive of those that are rich, and does not invoke class warfare and hatred to those that are rich.
I want someone to lead this nation with moral values defined by God, who has the character of a true Christ follower and who will humble themselves as needed to show Americans their humanness.
I know they will make mistakes. I know that it will never be easy. I know that wearing your faith on your sleeve will be hard. I know the Atheists, Agnostics, Muslims, Hindus and other religions will persecute you for your beliefs. But I ask that you do it anyway, because it is the right thing to do.
I also ask that people seek these things out in a leader and not settle for second best. Pray for our leaders, pray that they will seek first the kingdom of heaven, and pray they will seek forgiveness, pray that they will repent. Pray that this nation will return to God, repent and prepare for God to bless this nation again.
Bottom line is this, if we can get a leader that will be willing to be changed by God, lead people to Jesus as individuals and ask that those individuals ban together as Americans to lead this nation back to God, we will be restored to God.
