Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your father who is in heaven: (Matthew 5:13-16). Christians are accountable and responsible in preserving the Judeo-Christian fabric of our society.
There are biblical causes Christians can fight for in the political realm such as holding politicians accountable for good stewardship with our natural resources, good educational standards, right to life, upholding marriage and family of God’s original plan, and religious liberty. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them (Psalm 139:15-16). If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works (Proverbs 24:11-12)? Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
The First Amendment to the Constitution says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Sadly, religious freedom is under attack in this country. The judicial system is systematically establishing precedents that little by little, are robbing our religious liberty. It is vital that we defend and protect this right. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:1-4).
If Christians would vote their duty to God at the polls, they would carry every election, and do it with ease. Their prodigious power would be quickly realized and recognized, and afterward there would be no unclean candidates upon any ticket, and graft would cease. If the Christians of America could be persuaded to vote God and a clean ticket, it would bring about a moral revolution that would be incalculably beneficent. It would save the country. ~~Mark Twain, 1904, Colliers magazine~~ When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn (Proverbs 29:2).
The First Amendment to the Constitution establishes freedom of speech. “Congress shall make no law, abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for redress of grievances.” Christians have a right to peacefully protest laws and policies, share their opinions with their congressional legislators, and seek to influence public policies.
Throughout the Bible, followers of God have stood against what is contrary to the Word of God. They stood for what was right even when their leaders did wrong. So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah. And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim (1 Kings 18: 16-18).
What is the primary issue in this election? The economy is a top priority and foreign policy too but what is our greatest need? Is it not keeping a strong Christian America? How about a parent’s or grandparent’s greatest treasure? Should we not vote for those who have pledged to protect them? We are accountable and responsible for the well-being of our children. We have a God-given responsibility to represent Christ in our nation. One way to do this is to participate intelligently and prayerfully in the democratic process. Exercise your right now so that your children and grandchildren will inherit an America that is still free. And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink (Exodus 2:3). The unselfish act of the mother of Moses kept him safe in time of danger. The Pharoah ordered the firstborn sons of Israel to be killed but this mother took action to save her son. She did not sit idly by without trying to save Moses. Her love and obedience saved her son and the man God used to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt! They became a strong country by obedience to God! America can stay a strong Christian nation by obedience to God! We must render our hearts unto our Creator and follow His holy Word!
We are held responsible for maintaining our Republic! We should do our part to elect leaders that seek to fulfill God’s requirements. We do not wring our hands and do nothing. We must remember what Patrick Henry said in 1776, ” It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.” “The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.” ~~John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United Sates~~”The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” ~~George Washington, 1789~~”Intelligence, patriotism, Christianity, and a firm reliance on Him, who has never yet forsaken this favored land, are still competent to adjust, in the best way, all our present difficulty.”~~Abraham Lincoln~~
In his recent ad in major papers, Billy Graham urged Americans “to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God.” I pray millions of Christians will heed Billy Graham’s exhortation to vote as lives of millions depend on whether they do or not! We must keep America a strong Christian nation! God bless America!
Heavenly Father, You divinely birthed this nation in your righteousness and holiness to give unlimited opportunity for religious freedom to worship You, serve You, and spread your glorious gospel throughout the world. Thank you for allowing me to be a citizen of the land of the free and the home of the brave. You have blessed us with a wonderful Christian heritage that is alive and well throughout the country. I pray the people of this nation will turn from their wicked ways, repent of their sins, and rend their hearts unto you and not their garments. You promised if your people, which are called by your name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek your face, and turn from their wicked ways; then you would hear from heaven, and forgive their sin, and heal their land. I know Lord Jesus, you are the hope of our nation and the world. I pray for this election as we are in dire and perilous times. I will step up to the plate and perform my civic duty as being obedient to the laws of our land. I will not shun my responsibility as a citizen to vote biblical principles as the only hope of saving this Republic. Lord Jesus…I know America is in your loving hands. I know your divine will shall be done. May the hearts of the people of this nation turn to you…Lord God Almighty….the Author of Freedom! I pray that you will continue to bless this nation. I pray that by your grace, America will remain a strong nation. To God be the glory for ever and ever! Amen.
