And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”(Luke 18:6-8, ESV)
It is election time again, if you have been hiding out in the mountains away from all television, radio and internet connection and didn’t know. People on both sides of the isle are optimistic and full of hope that their choice is going to make the necessary changes that will turn America around. They offer hope of a better economy, more jobs, more money, less taxes, more healthcare, more of this and less of that and the fight over who pays for it.
The question is this; can either of the candidates fulfill those promises? Can Congress fulfill those promises? I have always been a conservative, and I am going to shock those that know me well, but the answer is no. Neither side is going to fix anything by trying to depend on themselves and their teams to fix it. It cannot happen, and it will not happen. So, what do we do?
I do believe that we vote and that we need to vote. We need to vote for the person who is most like us and our beliefs, I.E. pro-life, pro-marriage, pro-Christian, etc. Secondly, vote for the person who you think is most capable of humbling him or herself to God to be used as God’s tool to lead this nation back to Him. That’s where we come in.
We as Christians are the body of Christ on this earth. It is our responsibility to pray for our leaders to lead this nation back to God. It is our responsibility to pray for other Christians to stand up and pray for each other. It is our responsibility to pray for the lost, and to pray that the lost come to Christ and in turn pray for leaders. What happens when we pray? When God’s people become persistent in crying out to God, and then wait for God’s answer, things will happen. We just have to be prepared for what God’s answer is.
We must put our hope and faith in God that He knows what He is doing and that He is in control and has a plan. It may not agree with my plans, or your plans, but we all need to see the big picture. We need to view this whole process from 20,000 feet above and not from ground level, so we can see God’s view of what is happening, and get away from our wants and desires. It may be scary, because God’s plan may differ from us and may involve judgments on this nation. It may be positive news, that the persistent prayers of Americans are answered and we get a leader that challenges us as individuals to return to God and challenges our nation to return to God. That would be what I want, wish and pray for, but I will take God’s plan. He has an eternal plan, not just a plan for 4 or 8 years. Of course, things may not go the way I want them and I am preparing for that. Just read the following scripture, but know God is in control, trust Him and put your faith in Him.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Habakkuk Rejoices in the Lord
17 Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 God, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet like the deer’s;
he makes me tread on my high places.
Bad things and disaster may come, our candidate may not win, but no matter what, God is in control and we need to rejoice in the Lord, praise His name and know that people cannot fix the problems, only God can. My prayer is this, and my plan is this and it is simple:
Lord God, I pray that Americans as individuals return to you and ask for forgiveness and repent of our sins. I pray that whoever wins this election will be willing to humble themselves before you and the world and obediently lead this nation back to God by repenting as a nation and declaring that we are a Christian nation.
When we do this in America, we will be restored by God.
